The original production of this show had been well-received and only had a short outing so, for the first time, the company decided to re-tour a piece. This gave us the chance to thoroughly re-work the show, and director Matthew Smith was recruited for the project. Under Matthew’s guidance the show was re-devised and sharpened up into something a lot darker and nastier than the original production, which helped to highlight the final redemption of Punch and Judy at the end of their story. More Punch and Judy characters were involved, including the nosy neighbour and Jack Ketch the hangman. Punch and Judy themselves were even more slobbish and disgusting, which meant they had much more of a journey to go on. Their journey was assisted by puppetry, music hall routines and music, including tracks by Perez Prado and Elvis! |
